Digital calipers offer 4 measuring capabilities: outside dimensions, such as diameters, measured with the large jaws, inside dimensions measured with the smaller jaws, depth measurements with the extending rod, and step measurements taken from the back end of the jaws.
Origin point can be set by pushing the 0/ON button and retained to display the absolute true coordinate from the origin point which is usually the jaw closing position.  Once the the origin point is set, there are no needs to repeatedly perform a zero setting operation
