Description
Here is a nice used Prestolite 4 cylinder cast-iron distributor, with a riveted tag bearing part number1AD 6004 2F
.
(Note that to the right of this number is a "
4
" and what MIGHT be a "
Z
", forming a 2-character date code stamped into the tag. But I can't be sure about that).
I tried to research this, and learned that it is apparently a date code. And IF I understood this correctly, the "
Z
"
(if that is indeed what is stamped there)
represents 1945 or 1967.
(Apparently the manufacturer recycled the letters decades later).
But
PLEASE
make your own decisions about the numbers and application from the photos and your own research).
This vintage 4 cylinder distributor is a USED factory-original, NON-VACUUM-ADVANCE unit. It turns freely, and you can feel the points open and close against the cam. It seems to have old original gray paint still showing about 50% coverage, with light surface rust specks. I made no attempt to clean it in any way, so buyers could see it exactly as found
(see photos)
. The rotor was missing, but I rummaged in my new-old-stock parts stash and found a new rotor and a new condenser for it. These 2 replacement ignition parts are
included
in this auction.
NOTE:
If you are in the Midwest, I will be at the upcoming CARS & PARTS SPRINGFIELD SWAP MEET event in Springfield, Ohio at the Clark County Fairgrounds, exit #59 on I-71,
Sept 3, 4, & 5,
2021. If you're gonna be there, you can arrange to pick it up and save all shipping costs.
I don't have a way to test it, so I must sell it as-is.
Please
see photos, and decide for yourself about its condition.
I researched this old distributor online, and found a site which lists this number as being correct for several industrial, agricultural, and marine applications. I also noted that the listing first shows it as "
Prestolite/Autolite
," but later in the same listing the exact same part number is described only as "
Autolite
." Yet in other places, it is listed only by its part number, with no mention of either brand name. So, is this unit the same as an Autolite distributor?
I don't know
. Also, I found listings in Ignition Parts catalogs showing this distributor number as being correct for various early Jeep models. But
PLEASE
do your own research, and make your own decisions about its application, as I know nothing about such things.
Following are listings I found online on a site about "
Fitment Prestolite Distributors
" or something similar.
Please
make your OWN decisions about its application.
